Garmin GPSMAP 7407xsv Powerful Multi-Task Navigation Device.

garmin gpsmap 7407xsvWhen searching compatible for PanOptix transducer devices, I came across the Garmin GPSMAP 7407xsv 7-inch Multi-touch Widescreen Chartplotter/Sonar Combo apparatus.

I assume that you can find similar marine combo devices and maybe even more powerful as a market is relatively saturated with offers, but? But I have promised to make Garmin marine GPS system’s overview, and unquestionably it is worth to look on the given Garmin product.

When reading technical data and the performance of this device, it is really surprising about the achievement of Garmin engineers.

I never try to overwrite word for word the information provided by the manufacturer on its website, but am trying to bring out the characteristics which I think highlights features which the particular apparatus can perform in comparison with the similar.

…look pretty skeptical when it comes to the combo devices

Honestly, I am an old school minded person and look pretty skeptical when it comes to the combo devices, but times change, and technology allows you to create successful solutions.

It is hard to find real users reviews of Garmin GPSMAP 7407xsv, so my opinion is based on the technical characteristics and the possibilities offered by the manufacturer. Also on my personal experience and analysis.

Reading and watching videos about this Garmin marine apparatus I concluded that it is the device which can meet any needs for recreational craft. Either it is fishing or participating in a sailing yacht races, fast ride with a powerboat and other marine activities.

For fishing and scuba divers.

Built in DownVu, SideVu and Traditional Sonar

The GPSmap 7407xsv provides outstanding fishfinding and bottom tracking capabilities. It offers dual-channel 1kW CHIRP, plus DownVü and SideVü sonar scanning with CHIRP technology for the clearest scanning images on the water. It delivers target details so clear and precise; you can actually distinguish between small and closely spaced fish at key fishing depths all the way down to 1,500 m.

I sometimes used to participate in sailing regattas and know how crucial is to cross the start line on time and in the best position.

There are so many examples of famous races when seconds were decisive.

For example, last season 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race.

If I’m not mistaken, on leg six from Itajai (Brazil) to Newport RI(US), after more than 5000 nautical miles and three weeks tough racing the final miles between Dongfeng Race Team and overall leader Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Volvo 65 one-design racing yachts. Only a few seconds separated when the rivals crossed the finish line.

Included special features give us the pre-race guidance which will help you to cross the line in the time at high speed. As we know, a start line is normally very crowded, and it is a lot of stress during start. You will gain a lot if you cross the line first at a good speed.

GPSMAP 7407xsv support sailing features include laylines, the enhanced wind rose, heading and course-over-ground lines, true wind data fields and tide/current/time slider. Gauge displays are designed to provide important need-to-know information at a glance, including true and apparent wind angle, set and drift, true or apparent wind speed, horizontal or vertical graphs, and a data bar with customizable data fields.

It could be the great help when you know how to operate it properly.

Addition to built-in DownVu, SideVu and traditional sonar the GPSMAP 7410xsv is compatible with multifunctional PanOptix transducer which allows enjoy us with so-called „Live view fishing .“

As most of the high grade sat nav latest generation receivers Garmin GPSMAP 7xxx series units have fast, responsive 10 Hz GPS/GLONASS chips which refresh your position and heading ten times each second to make your movement on the screen more fluid.

No need to say about network connectivity to most of the onboard compatible navigation and auxiliary tools but with the help of Apple device and BlueChart mobile the route planning easily could be done at your home office or lying on the boat’s sundeck.

It could save a time and avoid the panic on board

I always appreciate the safety factors on ships and boats. Given device is designed to execute simplified distress signal triggering by one-touch alarm button. It is automatically transmitting information on VHF channel 16 the boat position and type of distress (fire, man overboard, collision, etc.). It could save time and avoid the panic on board.

There are some of the other cool features which I wanted just mention, the ability to create your own HD maps, GPX Waypoints Transfer, Multiple Depth Range Shading, manage Autopilot from Chartplotter and wirelessly connect to Garmin VIRB action cameras to catch unforgettable pics and footages.

You could ask that it cannot be that there are no any cons?

I agree with the question. Just, as mentioned above, due to lack of user reviews and feedbacks only could be found is the producer’s information and, as a rule, none of them say bad about their products.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Garmin GPSMAP 7407xsv Chartplotter Sonar Combos device, despite all yet undiscovered deficiencies, is the perfect marine GPS navigation system for the reasonable price and operate with it is not rocket science.

I’ve gone on a few sailing trips but have never operated the machinery myself- I leave that bit to the experts lol.

A normal road sat nav system can be complicated at the best of times so I can only imagine a marine GPS navigation system would require someone that knows what their doing, which would emphasis how user friendly these devices would need to be.

I have a friend that loves fishing. I was thinking of getting him a gift and your article has given me a few ideas. What would you recommend for a guy that fishes every fortnight across the coast line?

      Thanks Jay for stopping by!

You are right that marine GPS for boat systems could be more complicated than GPS for cars. Honestly, if you are more or less familiar with nautical charts remaining just is know how to operate with the device.

In fact, at least in my country, every boater have to have the license. Regardless what is licence grade the basic navigation skills are an essential part of learning courses.

To answer your question about the gift to your fishermen friend,I need to know a bit more about his habits. Only I can give advice- read my website, it is full of real stories and valuable information of theme.
